Mytilene, the main port and capital of Lesvos, is located on the southeastern shore, across from Dikili, Turkey. It is built upon seven hills, has a large harbor, an enormous castle, a pine forest, great restaurants, cafes, interesting shops, and an active nightlife. It is most famous for the Matis Ouzo Factory, known for its award winning ouzo (anise-flavored aperitif). It is also known for beautiful beaches, amazing food, and more than a million olive trees. Mytilene Odysseas Elytis Airport (MJT) is located 6 km south east of town, on the southeast coast of Lesvos.
